Santa Got the Spins

We were excited when Kevin from mp3hugger and Indiecator asked us to contribute a Christmas song to the newest Indiecator Compilation titled: "An Indiecator Christmas." Go here to purchase the album digitally or stream the whole album. Here's our song streaming. (Photo by Sandy Carson)

3.2%

Loxsly just got back from a two night stint in Oklahoma with our friends Sharktooth playing Norman's Opolis and revisiting the Soundpony in Tulsa. We had a blast drinking 3.2% beer and cowering from chants of 'Texas sucks' in dive bars. Special thanks to Marian and Dylan at Opolis for being so awesome, Mike at Soundpony for running the coolest bar in Tulsa and stocking Milk Stout, and Sharktooth for putting, hooking and boozing us up.

John Kelley's "The Balcony"

Former Loxsly member, John Kelley has written and performed a great new album called "The Balcony". It summons Nilsson-esque vocals, dense soundscapes, and Lawrence Welk orchestration. You can buy it here, or at the CD release show this Thursday, November 13th at Club DeVille in Austin. I'll be playing the keyboard in the band The Balcony which is also the title of the album (to be clear).

Best Costumes '08

This year Dusty stole the show with his Colonel Sanders costume. Garrett made an impressive effort as "Janky The One Man Band".

The Bronze Age (RIP?)

This post is long overdue. Awhile back, my good friend Monte orchestrated this band called The Bronze Age. It features current and past Loxsly members: me, Eryk, and John plus Quiet Lovely's John Perkins and Monte Holman. Justin recorded the EP at his studio and it turned out great. While we we're recording, the band's rock vibrations knocked my phone into a cup of coffee. It's medieval! Go here to download it for free.

Loxsly Banned From Canada

Upon attempting to enter Canada to play free shows in Toronto and Montreal, Loxsly was detained for 4 hours for not having a work permit, forcibly deported, and each member banned from Canada for one year. We were really looking forward to visiting Montreal and instead wound up spending the night in Albany, NY. I'll be appealing the decision and hopefully we can make it up there sooner. Thanks to everyone in Montreal and Toronto who helped us out with arrangements and planned on coming out to see us.

Si je vous ai bien compris, vous êtes en train de dire: à la prochaine fois. Ostie.

Images from the Tour

It's early in the running, but thought I would post what I consider to be two of the more picture perfect moments on the tour so far.

Moore, OK, Water Tower vs. Gaggle of Geese Right of Way

My vote is for the geese, but you have to admit a water tower tribute to everyone's favorite patriot country rocker is a close second.

Song of the Day

The good people over at KUT's Texas Music Matters posted our brand new "Untitled" song as the song of the day. We did a live recording in their studio last Thursday. I promise we're not trying to be like Metallica and have an "Untitled" song, we just haven't thought of anything yet. Check it out here

A Smooth Video

So yesterday we finished up the filming for a loxsly music video Garrett has been working on for quite a while. We spent most of the day in one of the old hangers (stage 4) at Austin studios shooting the last of it. Someone pointed out that Garrett decided to shoot on both one of the coldest days and this time one of the hottest days in Austin. It all looks really good. I can't wait for Garrett to edit it all down. I unfortunately had to leave the shoot a bit early due to car fumes, dragging 170lbs of dead weight for 20 some takes, and all the dirt and dust in the air making it hard for me to breathe. I am still a bit sad we didn't get to hire the bear. But thanks to everyone that helped through out the process!

Also, turns out we are on Billboard.com . You can buy our EP and even get ringtones of the songs. I don't know how we got on there, but it works.

We are playing emo's on Tuesday with Nomo. See you there!

Blue Hole

Every summer I try to take advantage of all the local swimming holes. Krause Springs, Barton Springs, Hamilton Pool and Balmorhea State Park are all great. So is Blue Hole in Wimberly. Last weekend, Bridget took me to Blue Hole for my birthday. It's full of rope swings and jumping spots. The locals there are fearless. The kids are acrobats. Watch this guy and listen for the "yeah baby".

Meet our new drummer.

Peter Frampton

Loxsly is currently planning an East coast tour to correspond with the release of our new EP, Flashlights. Our friends over at Team Clermont are doing our tour press and promotion. As a result, we've sent a large number of CDs out to different people and places. We've got some interesting responses. My favorite is this guy.

Sadly, this is the second time that he has tried to auction our CD on Ebay. The first time he packaged it along with Billy Idol's Charmed Life. Now it is being sold with Peter Frampton's Greatest Hits. Do you feel like I do? (Sorry) Why would someone pay $5 for our EP when they could get our EP + Frampton for a bid of $1.99 or more. Is this viral marketing?
